As part of the year-long Modesto 150 Anniversary celebration, Modesto Area Express (MAX) will be honoring the history and achievements of public transportation in Modesto. As February features Modesto locations, this is a perfect time to honor the all-important and timelessly beautiful Downtown Transit Center!
In 1915, the Southern Pacific Railroad built this lovely Mission Revival station which played a large part in the region’s commercial growth and has been used by various public transportation services for over a century. The building has been home to MAX since 1993, and we are excited to provide some much-needed updates, repairs, and improvements to this beautiful building and public transportation in Modesto. Construction is expected to be completed, with rail service restored, in 2023. Expansion will include the Altamont Corridor Express extension to Ceres to connect more residents to important regional destinations.
